Every student has a story, an experience to share. Stories show us what it means to challenge yourself and adapt. At Gardner Edgerton High School, one senior stands out.
Coming from such a huge family has influenced this senior in many ways.
“I have six sisters and three brothers, and sometimes it made me feel left out because I didn’t always get full attention,” said Klee Wheeler.
Despite losing herself in everyday life in a full house, she found who she was at schools everyday life.
“I prefer academics and school, but I strongly dislike math,” said Wheeler.
Overall, all four of her high school years have been meaningful and deeply appreciated by Wheeler, nearing her graduation, and soon preparing for a whole new kind of adventure in college.
“My school life has been good. I’m 18 now, and I plan to graduate and go to college,” said Wheeler.
Her dedication to herself and her grades has paid off in the long run.
“I would say my grades are good. They’re mostly A’s, and I work hard on my classes,” said Wheeler.
However, school life was not always this simple.
“When COVID hit during middle school, it was emotionally and physically hard for me and my peers. It brought everyone down,” said Wheeler.
Her life outside of school also helped to shape who she is, like her connection to where she was born and shortly moved away from at the age of 3.
“I was born in Ogden, Utah, but I moved away shortly after and never got to fully experience living there,” said Wheeler.
Still, Utah, her true home away from home remains meaningful.
“My family talks about how amazing and beautiful it is, and I love hearing the memories. I remember seeing my dad come back from trips at the airport, and that was always special,” said Wheeler.
Eventually, the path did lead her here, to the Midwest, though her family spread out to many places, even if family holds a special place in her heart every day.
“My family lives in Kansas City, Missouri, and I decided to move here with my cousins, separating myself from my whole family,” said Wheeler. “My sister lives in Florida, my uncle is in Guam, and my aunt lives here with me.”
