Basketball is more than just a game for Mohamed Mohamed. For him, it’s a way to spend time with friends, have fun after school, and stay connected to something he truly enjoys.
For Mohamed, basketball stands out among all the activities he could choose. Whether he’s playing with friends or watching videos online, the sport remains one of the most important parts of his life.
“It’s fun and I get to play with my friends,” Mohamed said.
But for Mohamed, basketball is not just like any other game. The excitement and competition are what make it different from everything else.
“You get to dunk on people,” Mohamed said.
Mohamed is originally from Sudan, and moving to the United States introduced him to many new opportunities and experiences that were different from life in his home country.
“In America, you can do everything. You have the freedom of speech,” Mohamed said.
Although he appreciates the freedoms in the United States, Mohamed also enjoys some of the everyday things about living here.
“My favorite thing about America is Dave’s Hot Chicken,” Mohamed said.
Food is one topic Mohamed talks about with excitement, especially when discussing the places he enjoys eating most.
“Dave’s Hot Chicken and Taco Bell,” Mohamed said.
Growing up in Sudan meant speaking Arabic, and Mohamed explains that learning languages can be sometimes difficult.
“They speak Arabic. Arabic is harder because of the letters,” Mohamed said.
Even when he isn’t playing basketball, Mogamed still spends time watching the sport and learning more about it.
“I watch basketball YouTubers,” Mohamed said.
Although he doesn’t currently play for the high school team, basketball is still something he hopes to pursue.
“No, but I wanted to,” Mohamed said.
On the court, Mohamed knows exactly which part of the game he enjoys the most
“Defense,” Mohamed said.
And if someone ever challenges him to a game, Mohamed won’t back down easily.
“Maybe,” Mohamed said.
