Animal Farm was a book written by George Orwell. There was a movie made in 1954 and 1999, with the 1954 movie capturing the darker themes of the book. In 2026 there was a new PG version made for a younger audience.
This newer movie was..interesting. There were some noticeable changes, and they didn’t seem too bad at the start. The casting was interesting, and the worldbuilding was pretty bad. There was the bare minimum for the plot and nothing more.
Problems with the movie were that it was too mature to be a kids’ movie, but not mature enough to be above PG. They killed characters off like before, but it didn’t fit the PG rating it was given.
The plot itself was ok, but could’ve used some work. It could have followed the actual book rather than deviating it, for example, it could have included the parts where the animals sing “Beasts of England” and the part when Mr.Johnes tries to take the farm back, but Snowball is shot. The 2026 did not show major parts that happened in the book.
As of now IMDB (Internet Movie Database) has given the movie a 2.5 out of 10, and it has a 27% Rotten Tomatoes. This means that the movie was really bad and the public did not like it. When we watched the movie, there was nobody else in the theater except for us two. Angel Studios were expecting 3.4 million dollars, but on the opening day, it only made 1.4 million dollars.
The movie cost about 35 million dollars, which is a significant net loss. At the end of the movie, they show two QR codes, one said “Should we ever do this again?” and the other said no. I have never seen this after a movie. The fact that they have to put that at the end of the movie shows how bad the movie was. Creating another movie like this would likely lead to more net loss.
We would not recommend that you spend your money and time watching this movie. There are some good scenes, but overall, it is just a really bad movie. Instead of going to watch this movie, you should consider other movies or spend 96 minutes doing something else.
