Kansas Senators and House of Representatives are trying to pass Senate Bill 302, the House Bill 2409, and the Senate Bill 339, These bills will impact school districts across the state. Lawmakers are trying to pass these bills because they think that it will make the school a better place with no phones allowed in school, starting school after labor day, and new requirements regarding recess for students from grades kindergarten to eighth grade.
In my opinion I think that none of these bills should be passed. After reading all of them and rereading them again, I would only probably support the phone policy bill. This legislation is about not bringing or having phones in school so students are not distracted by “instructional time” which is stated in the Senate Bill 302. This bill is probably the most important because if this one passes- I think all of the statewide school districts will see a lot of progress with no one having access to any electronic devices.
As for the other two bills which I don’t think that they are going to pass. If one of them does pass then it would probably be the one about moving the first day of school after labor day which it states in the House Bill 2409.
For the last one, I don’t think it will pass. The Senate Bill 339 states that from kindergarten through eighth grade should have recess up until their eighth grade year. I don’t think that they will pass that one. I think that recess should just go through kindergarten through sixth grade not kindergarten through eighth grade.
