Many new and exciting movies have come out this year. The Royal Ballet: Giselle made an appearance in American and Canadian theaters on April 12 and 13, 2026. It was a limited time movie with another appearance in cinemas set for March 8, 2026. This ballet was based off of the romantic ballet Giselle that debuted in 1841. It tells the story of a peasant girl who falls in love with a noble man who was already promised to another. After finding out about her lover’s betrothal, she goes mad and passes away, only to come back as a spirit and save her lover from other spirits.
The Royal Ballet: Giselle tells a story of heartbreak and unrequited love. Even after finding out her lover lied to her, Giselle still protected him from the vengeful spirits called the Wilis.
The Royal Ballet: Giselle doesn’t differ too much from the original or other remakes of this famous ballet. One of the most notable differences was the attention to detail in The Royal Ballet version. The atmospheric design of the set gave off just the right feelings to enhance the audience’s experience. It is also longer than some of the other versions because it focuses on plot development and dramatic emphasis rather than just the dancing.
The performances from the dancers were astounding. You could feel the emotions they were trying to portray very clearly, and the performers did an amazing job with their dancing skills. Overall, it was an amazing performance to watch.
The story of Giselle is a deep and emotional one. It’s a captivating plot and, when you know what you’re looking for, is easy to spot when watching the performance. The story portrays heartbreak quite well and I was shocked at how well the performance of the ‘Mad Scene’ when Giselle goes mad and dies.
In all, I quite enjoyed this movie. I was surprised that I liked it as I don’t usually like ballets, but this performance was so easy to follow and was utterly captivating. I would definitely recommend this movie to ballet enthusiasts or people looking to try a new genre.
