Track and field is a demanding sport that requires you to be physically and mentally ready, that’s the challenge Samuel Elsey, a junior, has decided to take on. he runs the mile run event.
Samuel has put time and effort into track and field, and has been doing it for a while.
“I’ve been on track all three years,” said Elsey.
Being in track and field or a sport in general can make you feel really good about yourself.
“Afterwards, you just feel really good that you did that,” said Elsey.
Some people participate in track and field to be the best, but Samuel likes the community and just finds it fun.
“The community and the friends that you can make,” said Elsey, “And it’s just fun to go to the meets and hang out with people.”
There are multiple events in track and field, but it is common to focus on just a few to improve on.
“I’m on the distance team, and I run the mile,” said Elsey
During an event, it is really important not just to be physically prepared but mentally too.
“I just need a good mindset,” said Elsey, “[So] we’re mentally prepared.”
When running during an event, people have many things going through their minds.
“It’s just it’ll be over soon,” said Elsey, “And it’ll be fine.”
