Students Watching After Gardner-Edgerton Routinely is a team that watches over the high school and is always around to help when needed. It is run by counselor Jamie Heller and is made up of students from all grades. Their main goal is to make sure the students at GEHS feel safe and happy in their lives. They strive to make every environment a safe one. They meet every Tuesday to talk about ways to help the community.

SWAG-ER ran a Distracted Driving campaign last semester featuring Dakota Steuber. They held an assembly for the campaign and it was attended by the entire school. Steuber got up and talked about his personal experience and Kendra Rogers created a visual on how many people are killed each year. Kersten Postel talked about the percentage of students who text while driving and the BADD driving tags.

This semester they will be conducting a bullying campaign. They hope to put an end to bullying both in school and online. They had a banner in the lunch room that students could sign and they held a social media famine where students had to abstain from social media for a whole day. SWAG-ER planned this campaign for months to get it just right. The bullying campaign is not as big a production as the distracted driving one, but the members still worked to make it the best it could be.

SWAG-ER is also creating a group of trained students that other kids can talk to about things that are bothering them. If someone is not comfortable speaking to a teacher or counselor, they can talk to a SWAG-ER ambassador. The ambassador will take a few courses and be bound to an honor code before getting to talk to troubled students. The point of these ambassadors is to give students someone to talk to, someone to relate to. There is information in the counseling office for anyone who is interested.

SWAG-ER is a group that strives to leave a positive impact on people. They never stop working to make the students at GEHS feel like they belong. They work hard, have fun, and enjoy helping people. Plus, they really do have swagger.
