For many, a motorcycle is just a mode of transportation, but for Darius Johnson, it’s a passion. From the roar of the engine to the thrill of the open road, riding a motorcycle is more than a hobby but a way of life.
For Darius, a motorcycle isn’t just a mode of transportation, but a way to break free. As he puts it, the experience is surreal.
“When I’m on a motorcycle I feel free and loose from the world’s grasp,” freshman Darius Johnson said. “The rush I get is straight out of a fever dream.”
That feeling of freedom didn’t come overnight, though. It’s a feeling that has been around with him since his youth days, thanks to his family who have been riding a long time and been his role models for motorcycling, inspiring him at a young age.
“My dad and my uncle got me into riding when I was around six years old, it was always fun to ride with them when I was younger,” Johnson said.
As Darius’s passion for motorcycles grew as he got older, his need for his own bike also grew, needing something for his experience but also leaving lots of room to grow.
“I currently ride the Kawasaki 250r. It’s slow but great for a starter since I’m still young,” Johnson said.
Although Darius is just starting out with a bike suited for starters, his dreams are far from small. He already has plans for something much more powerful that will be able to take him on even better adventures.
“Although I have a starter at the moment my dream is to eventually get a Kawasaki Zx10r,” he said
Darius’s passion is also fueled by the riders he admires. Especially those who push their two wheels to the limit.
“My idol in the bike industry is Brian 636,” Johnson said. “The stuff he is capable of is just amazing.”
As his age grows so does his skill, further expanding his dreams and broadening his horizon. He’s already thinking about the next step in his journey… racing.
“I hope I get the opportunity to race in Texas once I’m 18,” he said. “All the good tracks are located there.”
Although Darius mainly rides for fun, the idea of exploring motocross as an outlet to meet new people and enjoy the thing he loves has certainly crossed his mind.
“Motocross has crossed my mind several times ,” Johnson said. “I would like to race for a club for fun but not professionally.”
Beyond riding, Darius envisions a future where his love for motorcycles extends into a career, one where he can work with bikes everyday.
“If i’m blessed enough to be able to get a job involving motorcycles I would want to open a tuning or mechanic shop,” Johnson said.
Darius’s journey has only just begun, and the road ahead is wide open.
