During Winter break, the Blazerettes went to San Diego, Cali. to perform at the Holiday Bowl. They were invited to by the World Strides, along with 26 other teams.  The Holiday Bowl is a post-season NCAA Division I Football bowl game played annually at Qualcomm Stadium in California.

The dance team prepared for the Holiday Bowl by learning the halftime routine through watching a DVD. All the teams competing were expected to know the routine to performance level when they got off the plane.

When first arriving, the team set off for a dress rehearsal with all the other teams and their choreographer, Mandy Moore.

“The trip was amazing,” Blazerette dance coach, Ashley Harker said, “the team had five fun filled days creating lasting memories together. Not only from being front and center during the halftime performance, but also spending time together.

During the trip, the dance team was given the opportunity to learn from world known choreographers in three master classes. The dance team also got to spend a day at the Beach and Boardwalk of Mission Beach, and even got their own private Shamu Show at Seaworld, Harker said.

Junior Tori Hill loved the experience of that the master classes had to offer.

“My favorite part of the trip was the master classes. I really love free dancing, not as a team but just doing your own thing every once in a while is fun,” Hill said.

The most amazing accomplishment came on the last night, for the team.

“We found out we had been selected for the ONE award that they give out to the teams that perform,” Harker said, “We were awarded the 2014 Spirit Award for being the team with the best embodies, the definition of sportsmanship and by positively representing our school and showing an overall enthusiasm and respect for performing arts at the Holiday Bowl.”

Overall the Holiday Bowl was a great experience for the girls, according to Harker. It was the one time they had been allowed to travel out of state and participate in an event with other dance teams from around the country. The team got to enrich their dance experience through their halftime performance and master classes, but also got to have team bonding time through time at the beach, Sea World, and Team Night.

“It will forever be a trip that we all remember! So many incredible ‘Snapshot Memories!” Harker said.

Upcoming performances for the team include the light show on February 20th, and the Spring show on March 28th.
