Choir prepares for Christmas Carols

Like the band, the choir has a winter concert fast approaching. Director Todd Burd is working with the choir in preparation for December 13 and said he is excited about the performance planned.
“We will be singing mostly traditional tunes with a twist,” Burd said. “Some of both holiday and Christmas songs will be performed. We will also include an orchestra, handbells, and children’s choirs.”
According to Burd, this concert tends to be the favorite of many of the students, so they are working hard to practice.
“We practice every class period on technique and phrasing,” Burd said.
This concert preparation time takes away time that could have been spent practicing for the choir’s upcoming events. However, Burd is not worried about the time conflicts.
“The students in the choir program are disciplined and understand what it takes to prepare for each event,” Burd said. “We work hard together to prepare each piece taking time to talk about text and vocal technique. Emotion is a huge part of song delivery. They have yet to let me down. They work tremendously hard to make sure we represent Gardner Edgerton High School and the choir program in a positive light.”
Sophomore Kabreya Gray is a part of both the Select Choir as well as the Treble Choir. Gray and the other choir members practice during class for the upcoming concerts.
“We practice our songs every class period, working on both specific sections, as well as the song as a whole,” Gray said.
Choir has been a part of Gray’s high school routine, joining because of her enjoyment of singing.
“I love singing, plus some of the free time we get in class is a plus as well,” Gray said.
Under Burd’s direction, the choir will be ready to go when the 13th arrives.
