A team of true scholars

Scholars Bowl, contains many members split into either varsity or junior varsity, much like how sports teams are organized. Scholar Bowl Coaches Deb Osborn and Julie Gillette both feel very strong about the teams this year.
“Both teams are doing pretty well,” Osborn said. “They have both placed at pretty much every tournament we have been to.”
Osborn said she believes this is due to the growing leaders on both the varsity and junior varsity teams.
“Varsity has a lot of returning members, and they are becoming strong leaders,” Osborn said. “Even though there are still new students on junior varsity, they are really stepping up at competitions.”
Another impactful factor is that the members are not “intimidated” this year.
“When members are intimidated, they don’t answer,” Osborn said. “Thankfully members have been answering more and more this year.”
Varsity member senior Andrew Hubbard has attended several competitions so far this year. His process this year is, according to him, good.
“Our group [varsity] hasn’t won anything yet, but we are getting better. Personally, I am doing pretty good,” said Hubbard.
Hubbard originally joined Scholar’s Bowl for several reasons.
“I enjoy academics of all kinds,” said Hubbard. “I also think trivia is a lot of fun, so putting them both together just fit.”
Scholars Bowl holds its practices on Tuesdays after school, and Thursdays before school, requiring members to attend at least one meeting a week.
