This year, Gardner is hosting elections for mayor, city council members, and school district members. If you are 18 and up, you may be eligible to vote.

The first step to voting, however, is registering to vote. Registering to vote for the first time can be stressful and confusing — here is a guide on how to do it, according to the Johnson County Election Office website:

By mail, fax, email, or text:

  1. Go to https://jocoelection.org/ and click on the “Voter Information” tab
  2. Print the Voter Registration Application, linked on the website, and fill it out. Questions include your address, name, political party affiliation, and your driver’s license number.
  3. Send it off to the Johnson County Election Office by one of four ways:
    1. Mail it to 2101 E. Kansas City Road, Olathe, KS 66061
    2. Faxed to 913-791-8934 or 913-791-8395
    3. Scanned and emailed to [email protected]
    4. Text a photo of the finished document to (913) 953-9539

Online:

  1. Go to https://jocoelection.org/ and click on the “Voter Information” tab
  2. Scroll until you find the link for Online Voter Registration and click on it (it should be the last bullet point on the page).
  3. After reading the requirements to submit an application, click “continue” and begin your application.

You can also register to vote in person at your local city hall or the Election Office itself. The website provides a link on how to locate a registration site.

The deadline to register to vote is Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Election day is Tuesday, November 2, 2021. REGISTER TO VOTE AT https://jocoelection.org/
