On Sept. 8, 2016, the young female, Jessica Runions, disappeared from a party one evening, two days later her vehicle was found burned out in an underpass. Seven months later more details arose on the story of Runions. On Apr. 6, a Missouri man was out hunting for mushrooms in an area south of Belton, MO. and had stumbled upon a human skull. The skull was identified as Runions.
Police have searched for more body remains, but have not found any of Runions. However, they found a second skull close to same area where the first one was found.
On Sept. 11, 2016 KC Police Department made an arrest on a man named Kylr Yust who was 28 years old. Yust was suspected to be guilty of the murder because he set Runions car on fire on the night of her disappearance. Runions and Yust were seen leaving that party together around 9:30 p.m.
Yust was arrested for the burning of her vehicle but has not yet been charged for her disappearance.
“The case has been set as a homicide,” according to Kansas City police.
While Yust is still a suspect he was also questioned in the disappearance of another woman, Kara Kopetsky, which was one of his former girlfriends. Police think that the other skull could have been that of Kopetsky’s who went missing in 2007.
According to the New York Daily News, the teen went missing six days before a hearing for protection order against Yust.
When police found the second skull Kopetsky’s mother was notified along with the Runions family saying the remains could belong to their daughters.
According to KCTV News, “It could take months — even up to a year — to identify the second set of remains.”
