GEHS has many clubs that are available to join with many new ones being added this school year. One of these new clubs is Film Club.
At Film Club members watch movies and then analyze everything from the movie’s theme to the actor choices. The club’s teacher sponsor is Lydia Heintzelman.
“One of my students had asked me [to sponsor] and I was trying to get into a club,” Heintzelman said. “This one just seemed really interesting because I’m an English teacher. I’m used to doing this with books and I honestly thought it would be really interesting to do this with a different form of media.”
Choosing what movie to watch is decided through voting. Club members will suggest school appropriate movies to watch and the movie with the most votes is the one that will be watched next.
Kellie DeSouza is the president of Film Club and she started it to share her love of movies with others.
“I want to be a filmmaker,” DeSouza said. “I want to spread that joy that I got when I was a kid, so to have a community of people that also shares that same love was really important to me.”
Shanice Waseka is the vice president of Film Club and she loves the community of Film Club.
“My favorite thing about Film Club is the community and the voting process and seeing everyone’s choices on what movies they like and what movies we should watch,” Waseka said.
Madison Rice is a member of Film Club and she joined Film Club because she loved cinematography.
“I want to become a director of photography when I grow up so having movies that I love and appreciate being watched in the club is very important to me,” Rice said.
Film Club is open to everyone joining and meets every Tuesday during seminar in room 221.
