Hermitey Pérez Triana has been teaching for 24 years and has decided to start a new chapter here.
Everyone has a different upbringing with different experiences, cultures, beliefs, and struggles.
“Well, I was born in Venezuela to Spanish parents. They have to leave their country because of the war,” Pérez Triana said. “Then we were, my siblings and I, were uh born in Venezuela. We were raised there. But right now, all… We were born there, but now my family lives all over the world because the rest of us are having so much trouble that we left the country.”
Everyone has family in different places; it could be as close as the next city or continents apart.
“I’m living here, one of my sisters is living in Chile, her son and my mother, and then I have another sibling, a younger sister who is living in Ireland. m One of my nieces is living in Madrid,” Pérez Triana said
People sometimes have many different experiences before working as a teacher.
“I was a lawyer in my country. Then when I went to Spain, and I worked at a basketball association as a secretary,” Pérez Triana said. “I also worked on doing market research. So many other things but my calling now is being a teacher.”
While some people choose their profession and others have others choose their profession for them, that’s not the case with Pérez Triana.
“Well, I didn’t choose a profession, the profession chose me,” said Pérez Triana, “I was looking for a job and someone told me, there is this position that they are opening and they’re hiring teachers to go to Spain. I just applied. And then I received a response, so yeah, come for the interview. So I went there, and then I did the interview, and then finally I got selected.”
All teachers have a different approach to how they teach; some guide you through, others throw you in and hope for the best.
“I believe that in order to learn a language, first you need to love the culture. So my classes are more about falling in love with the culture,” Pérez Triana said. “The language will come after because if you actually like the culture, you would like to go and visit the place to experience it first hand, and you would like to talk to the people and sing the songs and all that.”
