Moving to a new place can be both exciting and overwhelming, especially when leaving behind a familiar home of over a decade. Adjusting to a different environment, meeting new people, and embracing a new lifestyle is never easy, but some people find a way to turn change into an opportunity.
After spending 13 years in California, Marley moved to Kansas just three years ago. At first, she attended Blue Valley North, but later transferred to GEHS in her junior year. Despite the big move, she has grown to appreciate her new home.
“I like Kansas more because California is more dangerous and dry. Also, I like the people here—they are nice,” she said.
While she has had to adjust to a new environment, sports have always been a constant part of her life. She has played softball and used to run track, but an injury led her to stop running.
“I do baseball, and I used to run track too, but I had an injury, so I had to quit running,” she explained.
Beyond sports, she enjoys traveling and experiencing different cultures. She has been to Mexico and Hawaii, both of which left lasting impressions on her.
“I’ve been to Hawaii, and I liked it a lot,” she said.
Her love for different cultures is also reflected in her food preferences. She enjoys Mexican food, but sushi holds a special place in her heart, especially on her birthday.
“I always eat sushi for my birthday,” she said.
Though she doesn’t have a specific place in mind, she hopes to visit Japan one day. Having lived in the mountains in California, she has a fascination with nature and monkeys.
“I like monkeys, so I want to go to a mountain in Japan and see Japanese monkeys,” she shared.
With a kind and compassionate personality, she doesn’t have a clear vision for her future but she has a strong love for children and dreams of a career where she can help others.
“I really like kids, so I want to be a nurse or help patients,” she said.
Outside of school and future plans, she enjoys being social and making the most of her high school experience. One of her favorite things is attending school dances.
“I go to every single school dance, and I enjoy dancing,” she said with a smile.
At home, she is greeted by her beloved husky, a large but lovable companion who keeps her company.
“My dog is pretty big, but I love dogs,” she said.
From moving across the country to finding her passions in sports, travel, and helping others, Marley Warren is embracing every step of her journey. Whether she is on the dance floor, spending time with her husky, or planning for her future as a nurse, she is making the most of every experience.
