It’s incredible to me that it’s taken thirty-six years for a sequel to be made. Now here we are in the year 2024 and Tim Burton, Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, and Catherine O’Hara have finally all returned for the first official follow-up to the beloved 1988 film.
If you’re a fan of Tim Burton’s unique gothic visuals, surreal designs, dark and quirky humor like I am then you will love the original Beetlejuice. Even if you’re not a fan of Tim Burton I’d recommend you still watch the first one since it is a really good classic.
Both movies show similarities in that when characters say ‘Beetlejuice’ three times Beetlejuice automatically appears.
If you like knowing the depth in characters then the new Beetlejuice would be the best one to watch because they delve more into their personality.
I would say the original film might be better to those who love Tim Burton’s dark, quirky style, and who enjoy a little bit of creepiness with their comedy, and appreciate Michael Keaton’s iconic performance.
The new film would be ideal to anyone who love high-energy broadway shows, more depth with the characters, and who enjoy catchy music with a fun tone.
