With the school year winding down, we start to think about what we want the next year to look like regarding clubs and classes. There are many different clubs to offer for this upcoming school year, one in particular that doesn’t seem to be talked about much is Educators Rising.
Educators Rising is a career and technical organization the school offers that is for students interested in a future career in the education field. Educators Rising does a lot within the community and provides different volunteer opportunities to work with children.
“We also just talk about what it is to be a teacher,” organization sponsor Kaylee Wicke-Perez said.
Competitions are also held where members of Educators Rising compete and showcase their skills in education. Two girls from our school Madison Cashdollar and Elizabeth Westerman qualified for nationals this summer and will be heading to Washington to compete. The year before Wicke-Perez got to take a group of people to Florida which is one of her favorite things about this organization.
“My favorite thing [is that] I like the ability to travel with this. We’ve had several people last year that went to nationals so I got to take them to Florida,” Wicke-Perez said.
The club itself doesn’t have any prerequisites, however Exploring Teaching and Teaching Internship is along the same path way and is highly recommended. Educators Rising meets every day during seminar. Anyone of any grade level is welcome to join Educators Rising.
Currently, the organization has about 17 students within it, one of their big goals for next year is to try and get more people to join and also bring more Educators Rising into our school.
“We do a lot of volunteer stuff with the elementary schools, but we would also love to bring that into our school as well,” Wicke-Perez said.
To join message or talk to Wicke-Perez or any student currently involved and they will guide you on what to do. Overall Educators Rising is a great organization for students who see a future with education but as well as students who see themselves in a career that is related with children in any way.
“I think everyone should join if they’re interested in working with kids, or if they’re interested remotely in a career related to education” Wicke-Perez said.
Educators Rising is a way for people to get more involved and gain more experience early on to set up a successful future.
