The Building Leadership Team at Gardner Edgerton High School has decided that because of early release Wednesdays, they will allow students to travel on Mondays for seminar. The Building Leadership team is a group of teachers and other faculty members that get together every other Wednesday and discuss changes that could be made around the school such as tests and the way teachers are teaching.
Matthew Mayeske and Barb McCormick are two teachers who are on this team.
When being asked about traveling on Mondays, both teachers were glad this change was made.
“I think early release is great, it provides an opportunity for teachers to meet in a way that’s very student-orientated,” Mayeske said.
Most kids are excited about this change as it is an opportunity to get work in.
“I had kids who were pretty upset for the first couple weeks when they couldn’t travel and they couldn’t get all their work done,” Mayeske said.
“The need was that with no travel Mondays that only left upperclassmen and anybody, 3 days to go to visit teachers and go get help on tests,” McCormick said.
Mayeske talked about how his old school used to do early release as well.
The Building Leadership already has the schedule for the rest of the year planned for these weeks.
“I am excited that they have it planned out for the whole year, I think that is a good start,” McCormick said.
