The fishing club has returned this year being sponsored by one of GEHS’s Biology teachers, Aaron Batterbee.
The fishing club is in its early state right now, so there isn’t a concrete plan on exactly what the students will do.
“It’s gonna be a place for kids that wanna go fishing together, wanna talk about fishing, talk about the tackle they use,” Batterbee said.
Depending on what happens, the fishing club will meet on Tuesday, unless it gets pushed further in the week.
“Meetings [are] typically on Tuesdays,” Ryan Ridder said.
Students were looking for a sponsor for the fishing club, so it could get up and running, and Batterbee thought he’d be the best candidate.
“I might be the better candidate, just cause I’m a Field Biology teacher,” Batterbee said.
There’s a pond owned by the high school that the fishing club will mainly be going to, however sometimes the club might go to other places.
“We could take a field trip at a lake in Olathe, Cedar Lake, Kill Creek, there’s a lot of places around,” Batterbee said.
Batterbee himself has always had a big interest in fishing. He usually tries to go out and fish whenever he can.
“Over 40, getting close to 50 years, so since I was real little my whole family has been outdoor fishing,” Batterbee said.
