This year Frank Bell has introduced something new to GEHS that will help him make decisions. He has introduced a new group called The Principal’s Advisory Council.
The Advisory Council is a collection of 14 people, hand-picked by Bell, to bring forth ideas on what positive changes they can make to the school throughout the year.
“I wanted to get more voices around the table, and more points of view,” Bell said. “I want to listen to good ideas, and think about the execution.”
The kids in the council are held to the standard of having good grades, not being chronically absent, and being loud with their ideas.
“We’ll get a lot of input from my student advisory council,” Bell said. “It’s not a requirement that I make an announcement of what decisions they make.”
The council will be more in the background instead of having more publicity like the student council.
“If we tweak it in the handbook, probably no one will know, except when I do my Bell Talk in front of the student body next year,” Bell said.
Bell hopes that the advisory council will make the school more welcoming, safe, and make learning a bigger priority.
“They’re a part of the work, part of the solution so it’s not like a platitude and alike,” Bell said
Bell has a lot of teams made up of teachers who give him input on what he could do with the school.
“This group really fits the need of a voice I need to hear more of, and that’s the students’ voice,” Bell said.
