Christine Jacobs is the new Counseling Secretary here at GEHS. She is located in an open office right when you walk through the door of student services.
Jacobs is here to help the counselors, students, teachers, and attendance desk with checking people in and out and overall just helping them.
“I file kids in and out for appointments for them,” Jacobs said. “I do their filing for them, I send emails for them, and I call kids down to see them.”
Many students come in and out asking questions, changing their schedules, or just talking to the counselors and Jacobs keeps track of everyone who comes in.
“I have to keep track of everyone to help out the attendance secretary,” said Jacobs. “I would say between twenty and thirty kids come in a day.”
Some of the students might be able to recognize her as she worked at Sunflower Elementary here in Gardner.
“I’ve been at Sunflower for ten years and I started there because my kids were there,” she said.
What she likes most about this job is just seeing the people, being the counseling secretary everyone comes in and has to check in. She is the first person they see when they come in.
“I love being able to see all of the kids that I remember from Sunflower and then being able to meet all the rest of the kids,” Jacobs said.
She has two sons, one who has graduated from GEHS and another who is a sophomore. Now she is looking forward to being more involved since she works here.
“Being involved with everything in the high school cause I’ve had one son who graduated in 2021 from here. My youngest son is a sophomore here, so we’ve always gone to all the games and everything but I just want to be able to see everything,” Jacobs said.
