The new theater teacher, Joseph Patterson, is starting his first year of teaching at Gardner Edgerton.
Patterson went to Kansas State University. He teaches acting, tech, advanced rep, and all the intro theater classes.
He describes himself as a very hands-on teacher.
“I like doing things with the students instead of just having the students write a worksheet, or like doing something like that. I like being involved in the activity.” Patterson said.
Patterson likes it when a student makes a connection on their own or when they have taken a step forward in learning something.
“So like they’re figuring out something for themselves, like building something,” Patterson said.
A challenge of Patterson’s is getting up in front of others and forgetting what to say.
Patterson has a big goal in mind for this year.
“I think a big goal is to be able to produce all three shows and putting them up for the Blue Star awards,” he said.
The reason Patterson chose Gardner Edgerton is because it is a small town and a lot of people know each other.
