After years of teaching medical care professionals, Sean Fisher has decided to start teaching youth about health.
New to teaching students this year, Fisher is a new Health Education teacher. Working as a para at GEHS last year made the transition to teacher easy on Fisher.
“So, last year I worked in special education as a para, and loved working with the kids here… that was a really fun experience,” Fisher said.
Fisher has taught medical professionals for 20 years before coming here.
“I have been basically teaching and educating a lot of health care professionals for the last 20 years, and it just seemed like a natural thing for me to move from helping those patients that are maybe later in that health cycle…and…impact more students at the beginning of the health cycle so they don’t repeat some of the things I’ve seen a lot of adults do later on,” Fisher said.
Fisher has had a fascination in the human body since he was young.
“I think the human body is the most fascinating organism known to man. I love so many amazing things about it…” Fisher said.
Before coming to GEHS Fisher worked for many different health care corporations teaching health care workers from different states.
“In the health care world I’ve worked for a company out of California, I’ve worked for another company based out of Florida, and another based out of Texas… Those are the major corporations that I’ve worked for but predominantly I’ve had different districts that I’ve worked with…” Fisher said.
Fisher is also coaching sports this school year.
“Yeah…I’m coaching football and basketball,” Fisher said.
Fisher’s goal for this year is to have students take away different ideas and techniques to help with their own health.
“My goal is for every student to really get a passion for health education, and I hope they are able to take away new pearls or tools for their tool belt that will help them throughout their life with their health,” Fisher said.
