Serving for a service dog

Last Saturday, 84 students participated in the second annual Buff Puff tournament at GEHS ran by senior Rachel Knorr.

Buff Puff is an all boys charity volleyball tournament where all proceeds go towards a select individual. This year all proceeds went to Mason Owen, a sophomore who has Autism and Tourette’s Syndrome, who is raising money for a service dog.

This year $1,852.54 was raised from concessions, raffle tickets, and player/coach entry fees. On Saturday Owen also raised $1,830 through his GoFundMe page (see link below).

Each team could have six to eight players and two to three coaches. The tournament bracket was double-elimination with a losing court and a winning court.

This year’s winner was Cake Team, who was coached by Kynlie Nelson, Lauren Highfill, and Chloe Akin. Dylan Watts, Sam Mayeske, Zach Bass, Kolbee Finnell, Tim Wood, Jake Sanders, Jared Highfill, and Jonas Pippitt were apart of this team.

Cake Team went undefeated all day and beat Service Dawgs coached by Abbie Lane and Karlie Smith in the championship game. Chase Abram, Gage Bacon, Blake Nichols, Nate Payne, Jahmir Clark, Austin George, and Jamin Anderson were apart of Service Dawgs.

Cake Team was coached by Kynli Nelson, Lauren Highfill, and Chloe Akin.

Owen still has $20,000 left to raise.
