The GEHS’ chess team attended state on Saturday, Mar 14. The team left for Wichita at 5:30 a.m. Each player took part in six games, with the final record determining their overall positioning of the 150+ participants with the top 50 players earning medals. Despite their best efforts, the GEHS chess members did not place in the tournament. Member Austin Bettes was part of the team.

“I played my best, but my final record wasn’t that great,” Bettes said. “However, the tournament itself was a lot of fun.”

With the state tournament complete, the chess season is over for GEHS. The team still meets during seminar to play and prepare for next year.
