KMEA All-State and Regionals

Annually, Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) holds tryouts for Regional Orchestra, Band and Choir. Candidates that make regionals move on to the next step–the more exclusive all state Band, Orchestra and Choir.

All three of these groups are very selective and require the participants to be at least Sophomore. After advancing, it is a very demanding task, requiring hours of practice to master the difficult pieces of music.

Multiple students placed in the regional level competition. For orchestra; In Violin II, Alexa Wilden, junior, and Tiffani Richards, senior,  and in Cello, senior, Bethany Schultz. For band; in Percussion, Theron Dake,senior, and Joey Quigley, junior, in Alternate Bassoon, Megan Wetherington, sophomore, in Trombone, Ethan Archer, senior.

Participating for  Ninth Grade Orchestra, Jennifer Mauk Violin I,  Erica Culler on Violin II, Viola had Aubri Meyer, representing the Cello’s Desiree More and Bass had Kaitlyn Trotter.

In the Highschool Level Choir, Ryan Billups,senior, Guy Cauthon,senior, Ali Haag,senior, Amy Hurd,senior, Connor Johnston,junior, Abbie Lane,junior Cooper McGuire,senior, and Trevor Thoelke,senior were selected.

Dake, Archer, and Wilden advanced to state competition in the Orchestra/Band category, Cauthon, Lane and McGuire advanced in the Choir category with Hurd being an alternate.

All-State performances are part of the annual KMEA in service workshop, held at Century II Convention Center in Wichita.
